Why hologram production timelines dropped from months to weeks

A typical production now runs 4 to 8 weeks, brief to on site playback. Three technology shifts explain how, and where the remaining ceiling is.

The 2022 baseline

Four years ago, producing content for a life size hologram deployment was a substantial undertaking. Multi angle capture required rigging a purpose-built studio around the talent. Format processing, converting captured footage into the Holobox playback format, ran into weeks of iteration per project.

What changed

Three overlapping shifts pulled the timeline down to 4-8 weeks by mid 2026.

First, capture rigs stabilised. The multi angle setup at the Holoconnects Recording Station in Culemborg is now a documented, reproducible configuration. The same rig captures BMW spokesperson content, ITC-ILO trainer sessions, and Aiden by Best Western AI-host source material, same setup, same processing pipeline, different creative direction.

Second, processing pipelines automated. The steps that used to require human iteration, depth-cue application, edge treatment, background isolation, are now handled by procedural tooling. Human review catches the outliers; the mechanical work happens automatically.

Third, mobile capture matured. When talent can't travel to Culemborg, a mobile rig deploys to the customer's location. Enterprise customers with executive talent (a CEO whose calendar can't accommodate a Netherlands trip) can be captured without the travel schedule.

What still takes longer

Not everything sped up. Three production types still run beyond the standard 4-8 week window:

Multi language capture. Each language is a separate studio session. ITC-ILO's deployments with 4-6 language coverage typically add 3-4 weeks to the base timeline.

Custom AI Hologram characters. Training a character on brand voice, integrating with a customer's booking or answering system, and testing the interaction flow adds 4-8 weeks beyond the base capture.

Multi-take narrative content. A keynote with a story arc, multiple takes per scene, and iteration between production and creative direction takes longer than short form spokesperson content. That's a script complexity issue, not a technology issue.

What the ceiling is

For a customer with existing captured footage that already has multi angle coverage, rush deployments in 5-10 business days are now achievable. That's the fastest current-state, and it's the ceiling. Below that, physical shoot logistics and talent scheduling remain the binding constraints.

The next timeline compression won't come from processing speed, it'll come from AI Hologram tier deployments where the character doesn't need studio capture at all, just brand training and system integration.
