Reducing emissions through holographic presence: a sustainable solution for ITC ILO

In a move towards sustainability, the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC ILO) sought to minimise carbon emissions associated with executive travel.

The challenge: facilitate the presence of the Secretary General at events in Turin while maintaining a commitment to environmental conservation. The solution: holographic technology.

Use case

ITC ILO collaborated with Holoconnects to bring the Secretary General's holographic presence from Geneva to Turin for key events, eliminating the need for physical travel, reducing the organisation's carbon footprint and setting a precedent for environmentally-aware executive engagement.

Implementation

Holographic projection studio. A dedicated studio in Geneva equipped to capture and transmit the Secretary General's presence in real time.

Live holographic transmission. During scheduled events in Turin, the holographic image was transmitted seamlessly, allowing for live interactions, speeches, and discussions as if physically present.

Audience engagement. The audience in Turin experienced an immersive engagement, with Q&A sessions and discussions conducted through the holographic interface.

Benefits

Significant emission reduction. Travel-related carbon emissions dropped substantially, aligning with ITC ILO's sustainability commitments.

Cost efficiency. Holographic presence minimised travel expenses, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional executive travel.

Innovation showcase. ITC ILO demonstrated a commitment to innovation and sustainability, setting an example for other organisations seeking eco-friendly solutions for high-profile events.

Enhanced accessibility. The Secretary General could participate in multiple events without the constraints of physical travel.
