The World Food Forum, the FAO's flagship, youth-led platform on agrifood systems, hosted at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's headquarters in Rome, put a speaker on stage as a life-size hologram, beamed in through the Holobox and taking part in the session alongside an on-stage moderator.
Rather than a face on a screen or a pre-recorded message, the speaker appeared inside the Holobox at human scale, viewable by the whole room with the naked eye, present enough to hold the stage in a live, moderated exchange.
The World Food Forum convenes a global, youth-focused audience around climate and agrifood innovation. A life-size holographic presence let a speaker join at person-scale without the travel, and the emissions, of flying in, which is fitting for a forum about sustainable food systems.
The Holobox, an 86-inch transparent-LCD unit that is plug-and-play on power and an internet connection, rendered the speaker life-size and live for the hall, with a moderator at the podium leading the conversation.
