A singer murdered in 2024 "returned" to the stage: the technology that revived El Taiger

Cuban urban-music singer José Manuel Carvajal, better known as El Taiger, was shot dead in Miami in October 2024 at the age of 37. This past weekend, in that same city, he "came back to life" in a performance staged by his colleagues Charly and Johayron.

An advanced projection-hologram setup brought the late singer back on stage as a tribute to his legacy in the Cuban-American urban-music scene. The hologram appeared at life size, singing alongside Charly and Johayron using his own recorded voice.

A growing pattern in live music

Argentine singer Carlos "Indio" Solari appeared this way with his band Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado after retiring from the stage for health reasons. Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and Elvis have "come back to life" in their own shows. ABBA's Voyage residency in London uses the same family of technology to put younger versions of the band on stage night after night.

What differentiates 2025 is the deployment speed: a hologram tribute that would have required a year of pre-production a few years ago can now be assembled in weeks, from sparse source material.
