A hologram receptionist, as Holoconnects builds it on the Holobox, is a life size holographic host at your reception desk, greeting guests, checking them in, and answering questions around the clock. It is also called a holographic receptionist. No headset, no glasses, no app, anyone walking past sees it. Three quite different products are sold as a “hologram receptionist”
The term has become loose enough to be misleading, so it is worth separating before comparing anything. All three are marketed with the same phrase, and they solve different problems:
- A life size holographic display. A physical unit roughly two metres tall at the desk or entrance, rendering a person with real optical depth. Guests read it as someone standing there. This is what the Holobox is, and it is the only one of the three with physical presence in the room.
- A tabletop holographic avatar. A compact device sitting on a counter or table, showing a small character. Useful at a counter or in a restaurant, but it is an object you look down at rather than a host you walk up to. Our equivalent is the Holobox Mini.
- Software with no hardware at all. An AI video receptionist in a browser window, or a voice agent on a phone line. These are frequently listed as hologram receptionists and contain no holographic element whatsoever. They can be a sensible choice, they are simply not the same category.

What it handles at a front desk
- Check-in and check-out, completed by the hologram itself when it is connected to the property management system.
- After-hours cover, the shift that is hardest to staff and where an unattended lobby costs the most goodwill.
- Multilingual greeting, switching language per guest without a second member of staff.
- Wayfinding and questions, directions, amenities, opening times, local recommendations.
- Peak-arrival overflow, absorbing the coach-arrival queue while staff handle exceptions.
In practice this absorbs repetitive and out-of-hours work rather than replacing a team, which is also the honest way to present it internally when a desk team asks what it means for them.

What it needs to run
One power socket and an internet connection. The Holobox is plug and play, ships in a flight case, and works in ordinary indoor lighting including daylight, because it pairs a transparent LCD with a custom-engineered light box rather than projecting onto mist or angled glass.
